The top 5 League of Legend Newcomer - Teams
1. KT Rolster (South Korea)
KT esports is one of the oldest organizations around. Formed back in 1999 they were well established before League of Legends was even conceived. KT Rolster is a solid team who plays in the toughest league in the world. Having to regularly face SKT is no easy feat, but they still manage to hold their own. In the 2016 season KT Rolster competed with SKT and Samsung Galaxy placing 3rd in the Summer Split, managing to defeat both of the higher ranked opponents. However they fell to the ROX Tigers and ended up not making it to Worlds. The season ended on a high note when they signed an outstanding roster of big name players. KT Rolster has the power, be on the lookout for more high place finishes in the 2017 season.
2. Cloud 9 (North America)
C9 is a dominant force in the NA LCS. With consistently high rankings in splits, a long list of tournament victories, and high excitement style of play. It is no wonder fans love to watch this team play. Although their less than strategic decision making might lead them to losses on occasion, it doesn’t hold them back from playing the game they want to play. Cloud 9 will forever hold the achievement of being the first NA team to best a Korean team at worlds, where they made it to the quarterfinals. C9 will struggle in the World Championships, as all NA and EU teams will against the calculated Korean superstars. However they will continue fighting and clawing their way up the leaderboard, trying to catch up to the teams from the East as fast as possible.
3. Unicorns of Love (Europe)
A loose cannon, fan favorite team in the European LCS, Unicorns of Love is notorious for their unusual team compositions, and their high risk high reward style of play. This leads to inconsistency in their record, however as some of their more questionable calls have lead them to defeats against teams they probably could have beaten, if only they had played more carefully. In a sport overrun with cool strategically safe gameplay, UoL brings the fire. Though they might not be one of the most successful teams, they are definitely one of the most exciting. Fans have voted them into tournaments as their favorite team, and they have not disappointed. Always bringing fun antics to the table in and out of their matches. Keep an eye on Unicorns of Love if you want to see how much fun League of Legends can be.
4. ROX Tigers (South Korea)
Another underdog living in the shadow of SKT, ROX Tigers also plays in the toughest league in the world, against the top tier teams always competing to win the World Championship. The team has struggled to keep a consistent roster throughout the years, which makes it hard to have good team chemistry on the rift. Despite all of this ROX Tigers have the ability to pounce out of nowhere and take down some of the big name teams such as SKT and Samsung Galaxy. The team performs well in Worlds when they make it, but as mentioned before the lack of a stable team chemistry makes it hard to compete at the top tier level. Bringing in a fresh new lineup in the 2016 season might be just the new start they need to push through their limits, and surpass the success previous lineups have placed before them.
5. Afreeca (South Korea)
Any team in the LCK will always be a good team to watch if you want to learn how to make it big time in the world of LoL. The Afreeca Freecs are no exception. 2016 was their first season in the LCK and they managed to place 5th, falling behind the big name teams SKT and Samsung Galaxy of course. They respectably hold their own against all of their opponents. As a rookie team playing against veteran superstars, this is no small accomplishment. Watch out for Afreeca in coming seasons to move their way up the leaderboards, and into Worlds.
